Rita Ora paid tribute to Liam Payne just hours after the news of his death broke, and she could barely get through it.
During her show in Osaka, Japan, Ora performed her duet with Liam Payne, "For You," from the 50 Shades Freed movie soundtrack released in 2018. Rita began to perform the song, and after a while encouraged fans to sing along as she told them, "I can't even sing this right now."
In the background of her "For You" performance was a photo of her and Liam from the recording of the song, and at one point, overcome with emotion, she buried her face in her hands, and eventually walked off stage.
Then, on her social media, Rita mourned the loss of Liam with an emotional message and several photos of the two together. She wrote:
"I’m devastated 💔 He had the kindest soul, I will never forget. I loved working with him so much - he was just such a joy to be around on and off stage. This tragic news breaks my heart. Sending all my love and prayers to his family and loved ones. Our song For You takes on a whole new meaning for me now. R.I.P 🕊️"
Liam passed away from injuries sustained after falling from his hotel room balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was just 31 years old, and leaves behind his seven-year-old son Bear, who he shares with ex Cheryl Cole.
